Composition

Four components, one injection, documented synergy.

Traditional HA addresses only viscosupplementation. Yet osteoarthritis is multifactorial. Each component of ALGYL GGP targets a different pathogenetic factor — and their effects complement one another.

Hyaluronic acid

40 mg / 2 ml · 1,200 kDa

Synovial-fluid viscoelasticity, analgesia, chondrocyte stimulation.

N-acetylglucosamine

60 mg / 2 ml

Stimulates proteoglycan and HA synthesis, inhibits matrix metalloproteinases.

Glycine

40 mg / 2 ml

Essential for the stable collagen triple helix; antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect.

Proline

30 mg / 2 ml

Key to collagen synthesis in chondrocytes, supports cartilage regeneration.

HA: 1,200 kDa (French origin) Volume: 2 mL pre-filled syringe Suitable needle: 18–22G Classification: Class III MD · CE Patent: WO 2024/080954A1
Mechanism of action

Faster HA onset, sequential engagement of the other components.

Hyaluronic acid is only one part of the product — the other components extend the formulation toward a longer, more comprehensive reparative effect.

  • Hyaluronic acid — rapid onset linked to joint viscoelastic milieu.
  • N-acetylglucosamine — adds a layer linked to matrix and proteoglycans.
  • Glycine and proline — amino acids involved in collagen synthesis; support long-term cartilage repair.

Clinical study

Prospective randomized blinded clinical study in 111 patients with gonarthrosis.

Three regimens (HA / HA + proline / full ALGYL GGP combination) evaluated with WOMAC, Lequesne and VAS at week 12.

Study design

111 patients, grade II–III gonarthrosis (Kellgren-Lawrence), aged 40–80 years.

VAS — pain intensity
Lower values indicate a better outcome. The charts reproduce data from the clinical study (Kaval B., 2025). The full methodology and the statistical evaluation are given in the clinical summary and in the original publication.

At week 12 the group with the four-component formulation reached statistically significantly better WOMAC, VAS and Lequesne index values than both comparator groups (p<0.001 for WOMAC and VAS, p<0.05 for Lequesne). Improvement continued between weeks 8 and 12, whereas in both comparator groups some patients deteriorated again during this period.

Efficacy and safety — laboratory study and clinical practice

A laboratory study demonstrated that, in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, ALGYL GGP is significantly more effective than single-component hyaluronic acid or saline and leads to regression of degenerative cartilage changes (Gök O., 2024). In orthopaedic practice, ALGYL GGP has been used in more than 200,000 applications in gonarthrosis and has proved effective and safe, with a long-lasting effect. The safety report confirms that no adverse events occurred with administration of the product, such as joint pain or swelling, injection-site reactions or other complications.

Intended purpose and indications

Wording per currently published IFU (rev. 03/2025).

The medical device ALGYL GGP is intended for the treatment of symptoms of joint disorders such as osteoarthritis. It is indicated to increase viscoelasticity and for cartilage-tissue reconstruction or to supplement synovial fluid in joints.

Application procedure

Application in orthopaedic practice.

The specific choice, dosage and frequency are always determined by the treating physician based on the patient's condition and current IFU.

  • ALGYL GGP is administered once every 6 months.
  • Depending on disease severity, the effect of the intra-articular injection lasts approximately 6 months. If needed, a second dose may be given.
  • For joint effusion, aspiration of exudate, rest, ice packs and/or intra-articular corticosteroid administration are recommended. ALGYL GGP application follows after 2–3 days.
  • The intra-articular injection should be given by an orthopaedist.
  • Use a suitable 18–22G needle for application.

Complete information on use, contraindications, warnings and possible adverse events is provided in the current instructions for use.

Sequential protocol

ALGYL GGP opens a two-step sequence.

A professional proposal for a combined approach that respects the individual phases of joint tissue repair. The approximate interval between the main steps is 2–3 weeks.
